NOW THAT WAS A PHRASE that was NEVER good, no matter what the circumstance, and managed to catch Steve’s attention RIGHT away. It indeed was a certain surprise to see an old colleague of his — was it too much to deem him a friend? Perhaps, they’d worked together fleetingly, nonetheless Steve had appreciated his companionship and STRANGE demeanor.

❛  …What did you do this time, Jensen?

Did you know that cats can make one thousand different sounds and dogs can only make ten?

                     Cats, man.

                                                NOT. TO. BE. TRUSTED.

What was to be a mere calm exchange between the two had ended up stemming Jensen’s hatred. Rogers had only made mention of one word that engulfed the wrath of his entire existence into one word. He had every right, after being a soldier and doing their bidding until the bitter end.

Only left to burn the flames they had been given. Only to leave the very men sent to infiltrate the compound to be left for dead. Jake sneered, glasses catching against the reflective light as he looked to the other while Jensen’s hair stood on end.

All of the orders taken, all of the fucking bullshit spirals of death. The placements, the kills, consumed for the moment in the defense of the others’ query.

“ If you’ve got any sense in your head, which I can tell you do. You won’t get involved with the fucking government. ” The scowl he wore was hard out of the contempt he had, “ What did they do? “ A bitter cynical laugh cracked. “ What do ya wanna know? ”

★— CLEARLY Steve had hit a nerve, and it was hard to maintain focus when he could see he was doing so. The last thing he wanted was to rile up his friend – and truth be told, Steve had been weary of the government himself. Especially after he was exiled, and after SHIELD had turned their backs on him countless times. It was difficult to retain the idea of LOYALTY as far as any governmental body was concerned.

It was a strange feeling, though. Steve had spent his childhood wanting to be a soldier just like his father, to protect others. And now, there he was, second guessing the entity that had formed his dreams and ambitions. But in all honesty, if anyone had known betrayal of the government, from what little he had learned from Jake, he would be the one to know the ins and outs of such a thing.

❛   S’bit late, you know I was part of the US Army, right?      He motioned, clearly stating the obvious, all things considered Steve was actually used as US propaganda back in the day.

But I try to distance myself from such things, I ain’t vocal in the media for that very reason. — Tell me from the start, all I know is that they betrayed you fellas somehow, you and your platoon.

— AH! The opportunity to talk about a real ripe banana. Dude I love them so much like they’re super duper chill OOC and I’m so glad I’ve had the brief chance to talk to them, even though it’s defo not as much as I wish I could! I hope we get the chance to chill out IRL too. So close yet so far. Also thank you for being a smol bean and listening to me when I felt down, and thank you for supporting my art too - it means so much when people commission me to doodle.

Let me explain how much I love Dust, like, I’d seen them around in the comics but seeing someone passionately write about her is just so wonderful okay. I love hers and Steve’s interaction so much like they’re so pure… my children…

but yes 10/10 would slip on this banana peel

★—  THAT’S exactly what a good work-out does for ya, soldier.

DABBING at the sweat from his forehead with a towel that was already gathered in his bandage wrapped palms. TRAINING was his forte, something that he had enjoyed — all of that pent up emotion was vented in a positive way, and this time – it was alongside someone who had seemed KEEN to learn. Even though it did seem that physical activity, particularly contact sports such as Mixed Martial Arts — MAY not have been the other mans idea of fun.

With a step to one side, Steve reached for a towel on the rack, tossing it toward the other.

       ❛ C’mon Jensen, it’s progress.

There was so much riding on this endeavor that Jake’s anxiety was getting the best of him, and it may have ended up in Rogers’ direction thanks to his own frustrations. Jensen wasn’t the kind of guy to be an asshole. Yet he was very much a wildcard in the best sense.

It’s why the Army had invested in him. He had managed to stay alive, whereas others who outmatched him in numerous categories were no longer standing.

The mannerisms and body language of the other made it clear that he had hit a much harder area; an insecurity. Lenses of his glasses mirroring the images of the screen before Jensen heaved a sigh. He thought he had made it clear that he wasn’t meaning to be an asshole.

An index and thumb released the frame of his glasses from his eyes as Jake’s left hand brought the awareness back to his face and mind. He had been through enough simulations, exhausted himself countless times, yet there was the only intent of getting this operation completed in a timely manner.

Sometimes one really needed to throw the fucking rulebook out the window. How many soldiers died by the rulebook and misinterpretations? The frustration of that grey area made it really hard to tell.

“I’m alright with showin’ you some of this stuff. At least, the basics. I’m just under a time crunch.”

— Steve knew when constraints were around, people were far more SNAPPY – after all, he was one of these people – worse come to worse. Though he hated to admit it, he was usually relatively good at keeping his head level under pressure, but there were the one-offs that did result in his temper flaring up, but that was usually under the most INTENSE of situations.

Still – he could feel the sympathy, and he wasn’t quite sure if he wanted it or not – or if they should just power through the mission. He opted for the latter and held his head up confidently.

❛ It’s fine Jensen – keep going as you are. Show me when we aren’t under pressure.

He doubted there would be such a time in the future, but it was better than being a hinderance to the mission at hand.

Jake usually didn’t mind others peering over him working. Yet as soon as Steve rattled off the word ‘hacking’ and ‘numbers’, Jensen sighed heavily. “You know, I’d hate to be a nitpicky asshole or anything…. yet right now? Yeah. I’m gonna be that guy. Just to educate you a little so don’t take it personally.

The world calls us 'hackers’ yes, yet as a solider you’ll understand if I called you a Sergeant instead of a Captain that there would be a whole hell of a bunch of loss in seniority. Anybody above the world of the norm which consisting of hactivists, scriptkiddies along with others that do this shit for attention don’t refer to themselves as 'hackers’ we refer to ourselves as 'code crackers’ so if you take cryptanalysis for example and think of it as being a similar version of that, only in the digital age.”

“Another example would be like using a Queen or King piece in a game of Chess as if it were the same as a fuckin’ pawn. Not the same thing. Make sense? I mean I’m not sayin’ I everything about code cracking but I’m versed in a shit ton of info considering the Army an’ all. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with askin’ questions but jesus, man I could keep talking for a shit ton longer.”

★— Sometimes it was best to just let others do their work, but Steve was curious by nature and a very inquisitive man who was eager to learn. Particularly in this day and age where technology was advancing day by day – he couldn’t be left behind. There was already the stigma surrounding him that he was largely incompetent in terms of technology – so he had to break the mold, show everyone that he was as COMPETENT as anyone else.

But after that little lecture it was enough  to even make  the Captain, a man famed for his own lectures, seem a little patronised and belittled. He cleared his throat and skimmed his hand down the short tufts of hair along the back of his neck.

                 ❛ Understood…

★— That BITTER RESENTMENT that was spat out with VENOM behind each and every syllable. It was quite clear that Jake didn’t seem too KEEN on the government, and has his own reasons— This had all come about when Steve had mentioned his previous work for SHIELD, and about how now – he didn’t particularly TRUST them with all of their scheming, and after they had tried to kill him, of course. Not knowing their plans for the Avengers – possibly using them as PAWNS. An organisation that had ties with the higher ups…

Nothing was straight forward as far as they were concerned lately.

❛ What brings you to say that? What did they DO

★— Leaning over the keyboard, watching as fingers danced from key to key frantically – the constant tip-tapping becoming more of a beat in his head. As familiar as he was with Tony doing something similar, since the introduction of the holographic keyboard, it seemed to be less frequent. So this, was a blast to the past.

❛ So you’re hacking— To find out where Ultron could be hiding his new drones, right? That was the plan, at least… But it just looks like you’re typin’ numbers if I’m honest…
